Six Sweeties
Early in April 2008, GCCR rescued six Cavalier girls approximate ages three to five years. They were released by a puppy mill because it wasn't making enough money on them. They were about to be euthanized. In GCCR's care they have been spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations including rabies, and treated for varying medical conditions. Several of these girls are very fearful and will need special people to bring out their affectionate Cavalier personalities.
GCCR always has a waiting list of potential adopters. Volunteers are reviewing applications in order of receipt, looking for homes that will care for these girls' with very special needs. Preference is given to adopters who live in the Chicago IL area. If you have room in your heart and home to help one of these Sweeties please complete an Adoption Application

Lily (Adoption Pending)
Age: 3 to 5 years Color: Blenheim Gender: Female - Spayed Weight: 15 lbs
Lily is settling into her foster home very slowly. She does well with eating, housetraining, and walking on a leash. She loves playing with the dogs in her foster family. When she goes outside she runs back and forth in the yard trying to get the other dogs to play with her. But she doesn't trust people. When people approach she barks and growls. Her forever home will need to be patient and very loving to help Lily's true Cavalier spirit emerge. Adoption fee: $400.
Treasure
Age: 3 to 5 years Color: Blenheim Gender: Female - Spayed Weight: 14 lbs
Treasure is so outgoing and loving you wouldn't guess that she has lived her life in a puppy mill. She loves people of all ages and wants to cuddle with people all the time. She is as comfortable with adults as she is with small children. She is easy going and a sweet girl who will follow you around unless she sees someone else that she can happily greet. If that someone is outside of her yard she will likely take off so Treasure needs a fenced yard. Other dogs can be scarey to Treasure and unless properly introduced and trained has shown some aggression towards other dogs. She might not do well in a home with high energy and/or low tolerance dog breeds. She is fine with cats.
When we first brought Treasure into rescue one of her eyes was was obviously blind, red and likely very painful; perhaps it had been that way for a very long time. The veterinarian GCCR consulted removed the eye and sewed the eyelids shut. Her Cavalier spirit remains strong. Her foster mom says with her outgoing and loving temperament Treasure's as natural a therapy dog as you can find. Adoption fee: $400.
Maggie (Adoption Pending)
Age: 3 to 5 years Color: Blenheim Gender: Female - Spayed Weight: 17 lbsMaggie is a special girl. Her foster family is working hard to help her adjust to life outside of the puppy mill. She's wary of people but once made comfortable on a lap is very accepting of scritches and caresses. Maggie takes all her cues rom her foster family's other dogs, including eating, playing, going outside to play or to go potty. She is a follower and for this reason her foster mom thinks she needs to be in a forever home with other dogs. She loves to run in the backyard and play with the other dogs; a fenced yard is preferred. Her latest accomplishment is that she walks on a leash! Maggie's forever home will need lots of patience.
When Maggie arrived from the puppy mill she had luxating patellas on both sides and some hip degeneration. GCCR's veterinarian has repaired the knees and she will be ready to join her forever family after a short period of rehabilitation in her foster home. Adoption fee: $400.
