Critical Care

Sweet 3-month old Beatrice came to us as a breeder surrender, and during her veterinary evaluation we discovered that this tiny puppy was facing a very big challenge.  She was diagnosed with a serious congenital heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a condition where a blood vessel that should close shortly after birth remains open.  Although little Bea was bright, playful, and acting like a happy puppy, her heart was working much harder than it should.  Her condition had already caused enlargement of the left side of her heart, and without intervention this defect was life-threatening.

The good news is that PDA is often curable with surgery - but Bea needed that surgery urgently.  Thanks to her veterinary team and everyone who has been cheering her on, Beatrice has now had her lifesaving procedure and has been discharged from the hospital.  She is recovering in her foster home and showing everyone what a brave little girl she is.

While we are thrilled that Bea made it through surgery, the medical bills are just beginning.  Her lifesaving care is expected to cost $8,200 - $9,500 and we still need your help to cover the cost of giving this precious pully the healthy future she deserves.

Every donation, share, and kind thought helps Beatrice continue her journey from a puppy with a life-threatening heart defect to the happy, healthy Cavalier she was always meant to be.
