What Happens Next?
-
A GCCR representative will contact you to discuss and make arrangements to evaluate your dog.
-
Please keep in mind that a GCCR representative evaluating your dog does not guarantee that GCCR will accept your dog.
-
We cannot accept a dog or mixed breed which is unadoptable due to aggressive behavior.
-
Lack of foster space can also limit our ability to take in a dog.
Questions Shelters Frequently Ask Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue
-
Cavaliers are considered such a desirable breed. Why would they need rescue? Cavaliers come into rescue for many of the same reasons as other dogs. Families may need to rehome their pets due to financial changes, health concerns, or shifts in their schedules that make it difficult to provide the care their dog needs. Some Cavaliers come from situations where they were not receiving proper care or are found as strays. Others are retired from breeding programs and need help transitioning into life as a beloved family pet.
-
Our shelter does a thorough job finding good homes; why would we need to contact a breed rescue? We know you’re doing important work under challenging conditions, and GCCR is here to help. If you’re unsure whether a dog is a Cavalier, feel free to contact us for guidance. If you come across a Cavalier who may be harder to place due to age, health, or behavior, we’re here as a resource. When a Cavalier is entrusted to our care, we provide a full health evaluation, necessary medical treatment, support in a foster home, and placement with a family ready to meet their needs—now and in the future.
-
How about mixed Cavaliers? Will GCCR take them? Each dog is considered on an individual basis. Although our primary mission is to rescue purebred Cavaliers, we may be able to assist with Cavalier mixes depending on the situation and the resources we have available at the time.
